TNG2AST4 Overview

TNG2AST4 Four-directional optical supervisory channel and timing transmission unit.

To meet ultra-large cross-connect capacity and bandwidth requirements, Huawei presents the OptiX OSN 9800 product series. The OptiX OSN 9800 product series include the OptiX OSN 9800 U64, U32, P18 and universal platform subracks. Applied at the electrical layer, the OptiX OSN 9800 U64 and U32 subracks share boards by using unified software and hardware platforms, and can work with the OptiX OSN 9800 universal platform subrack and P18 subrack, OptiX OSN 8800 platform subrack and T16 subrack, and OptiX OSN 6800 optical subracks in WDM and OTN systems.

The TNG2AST4 board has only one variant: TNG2AST406.

Functions and Features of the TNG2AST4 Board (OSC)

Basic function
  • Receives, processes, and transmits four optical supervisory signals
  • The OSC has no limitation on the distance between two optical line amplifiers. The failure of an optical line amplifier does not affect the performance of the OSC.
  • The board is independent of the system control board. When the system control board is not properly installed, the AST4 board can still ensure the pass-through of ECC at optical ports 1 and 2 or optical ports 3 and 4 and monitor other stations.
Operating wavelength of the OSC
  • The G2AST4 board supports 1511 nm and 1491 nm pluggable optical modules.
  • The G2AST4 board supports 1506 nm and 1514 nm pluggable optical modules.
OSC signal regeneration function The board transmits signals from section to section. It also has the 3R function. In each regenerating station that has optical amplifiers, information can be correctly received and new supervisory signals are added.
Line fiber quality monitoring
  • The line fiber quality monitoring function can be used on the NMS, and the NMS will display monitoring figures and data. The online and offline applications of line fiber quality monitoring are supported.
  • The Fiber Doctor Management System Software Fee License needs to be purchased for this function.

  • The high-precision clock synchronization function can be implemented only after the corresponding license is obtained.

  • The TM1/RM1 and TM2/RM2 ports support two high-precision clocks.

Functions and Features of the TNG2AST4 Board (Pass-Through Working Mode)

 
Basic function
  • Receives GE signals from a third-party GE management device through the HP1 port and forwards the signals to the line side through the TM1/RM1 (HP) port. In this way, third-party GE signals can be transparently transmitted.
    • Clock cascading is not supported.
    • In GE pass-through working mode, the bandwidth does not exceed 800 Mbit/s.
    • The packet length is less than 1518 bytes.
    • The OSC DCN implements pass-through in the east and west directions. The two system control boards cannot be both offline.
  • When the TM3/RM3 (FM1/2) port works in clock working mode:
    • It receives, transmits, and processes OSC signals.
    • The distance between two line amplifiers is not limited by the OSC. The OSC performance is not affected when the line amplifier fails.
NOTE:
In the following scenarios, packet loss does not occur on third-party GE signals:
  • The packet length is greater than 80 bytes, and the bandwidth is limited to 800 Mbit/s.
  • The packet length is less than or equal to 80 bytes, and the bandwidth is set to a value (recommended: 99.9%) less than 100%.

OSC signal regeneration function The board transmits signals section by section and has the 3R function. At each optical amplifier regeneration site, the signals can be correctly received and new supervisory signals can be added.
Line fiber quality monitoring
  • The line fiber quality monitoring function can be used on the NMS, and the NMS displays monitoring figures and data. The online and offline applications of line fiber quality monitoring are supported.
  • To use this function, you need to purchase a license for the Fiber Doctor System.
