HUAWEI NE40E router is a high-end network product launched by HUAWEI. It is mainly used at the edge of IP backbone network, IP man and other large IP networks. It is connected with the core router products to form a complete IP network solution with clear hierarchy. This article tell us that automatic protection switching when PBR Is configured on an NE40E.
Issue Description
Device model: NE40E-X8
Version number: V800R006C20SPC100;
Networking diagram:
Internal network users need to access Internet resources. The egress router must be configured with two lines to be connected to the carrier. Policy-based routing and a static route are configured on the routers so that some traffic is traversed over policy-based routing and traffic is forwarded over the static route is policy-based routing fails.
The main configuration script is as follows:
traffic classifier GZ-QoS operator or if-match acl 3108 # traffic behavior GZ-QoS redirect ip-nexthop 10.209.108.2 interface Serial2/0/0/8:0 # traffic policy VIP share-mode classifier GZ-QoS behavior GZ-QoS #
Alarm Information
After the outbound interface bound to policy-based routing becomes faulty, traffic cannot be switched. Instead, traffic is still forwarded to this interface.
Handling Process
View the product document and perform tests on the device. Change the configuration as follows to achieve switching:
traffic behavior GZ-QoS
redirect ip-nexthop 10.209.108.2
The test result shows that policy-based routing does not take effect if the bound outbound interface becomes faulty. As a result, a traffic forwarding error occurs.
Root Cause
During configuration of policy-based routing on an NE40E, if the outbound interface is specified during redirection, the forcible PBR policy is used and protection switching cannot be implemented upon a fault.
If only the IP address and not the outbound interface is specified, the forward PBR policy is used and protection switching can be implemented upon a fault.
Solution
Do not specify the outbound interface while specifying the next hop.
Change the configuration as follows:
traffic behavior GZ-QoS
redirect ip-nexthop 10.209.108.2
Suggestions
Configure PBR on the NE40E and learn the actual requirements before configuring the next hop for redirection to determine whether protection switching upon a fault is needed. Bind the outbound interface as required.
