Comparison of CGHF and CSHF

Firstly, let’s take a brief look at PON combo.

The PON Combo supports two PON technologies through a combo port. One PON Combo port supports multiple types of ONUs at the same time, implementing hybrid network construction of GPON and XG(S)-PON and smooth evolution from GPON to XG(S)-PON.

Huawei PON Combo provides two types: XG-PON Combo and XGS-PON Combo.

XG-PON Combo: XG-PON Combo means that GPON and XG-PON are integrated into one port through Combo. The combo board is called CGHF. And the Combo board supports the access of GPON ONUs and XG-PON ONU.

XGS-PON Combo: XGS-PON Combo means that GPON and XGS-PON are integrated into one port through Combo. The combo board is called CSHF. And the Combo board supports GPON ONU, XG-PON ONU, and XGS-PON ONU.

Secondly, let’s see the difference between XG-PON and XGS-PON listed in the following table.

Specification XG(S)-PON

Finally, we come to the key parts that we want to share—-The difference between CGHF and CSHF.

From the following table, the differences between the two combo boards are rate mode, port rates and supported ONU rates.

This difference is because of the development of technology, CSHF combo board is more high-end. The downlink rate expands to 9.953Gbit/s, and both upper and lower lines reach 9.953Gbit/s.

This makes CSHF possible to compatible with low rates, enabling ONU that support multiple rates and different rates.

From the table, we can see the main difference between XG-PON and XGS-PON is maximun line rate. We know that XG-PON is asymmetrical and XGS-PON is symmetrical.

It can be understood that the uplink and downlink rate of the former is asymmetrical. Its uplink rate is 9.953Gbit/s while the downlink rate is 2.488Gbit/s.

The uplink and downlink rate of the latter is symmetrical, both reaching 9.953Gbit/s, so it’s symmetrical.

At present, the XG-PON business occupies a mainstream position in China market or even the world. Some countries are looking to transition to CSHF, which is a good way forward.

However, as far as the market XGS-PON business is concerned, the supply of its related products is seriously insufficient, and even if there is, the price is very high.

But we are always moving forward, and we will eventually transition to the next stage, and the era of XGS-PON will eventually come.
