One of my German customer asked me a question: Is Huawei’s 10G EPON card XEBD compatible with MA5603T?
He mentioned that he asked Huawei engineers and learned that XEBD only supports the following frames:
MA5680T ETSI frame: slots 1 to 8, 11 to 18
MA5680T IEC frame: slots 1 to 6, 9 to 16
MA5683T frame: slots 0 to 5
MA5608T Frame: Slots 0, 1
However, he also read the boards that could be added to the MA5603T through the command line and found that XEBD was included. He was so confused, then came to us to ask why.

After understanding the situation, I learned that the reason was that Huawei did not clearly explain the difference between MA5603T and MA5683T.

MA5603T and MA5683T are the same model. The difference lies in the services they offer:
MA5603T is multi service based while MA5683T is just OLT, MA5603T can support service like ADSL, VDSL, GPON etc. MA5683T only supports GPON, P2P etc.
MA5683T can also provide ADSL and VDSL services by loading the firmware of MA5603T.
After I explain the difference between these two machines, I believe you have the answer to the question asked by the customer. To make you better understand this question, here’s a comparison sheet of Huawei MA5600 series OLT:
As you can see, the only difference between MA5683T and MA5603T is whether they support multiple services. The same goes for MA5600T and MA5680T.
So if you only need to use GPON serivces, you can choose MA5683T/MA5680T. If you need to provide multil services, such as DSLAM and GPON, then MA5603T/MA5600T will be the best choice for you.
